Our beginnings
Eureka opened in Georgetown on 5 March 1995, founded by microbiologist Dr. Andrew William Boyle. From a single laboratory it has grown into one of Guyana’s leading medical institutions, with branches in Georgetown, New Amsterdam, Rose Hall, Parika, Anna Regina, Linden and Bartica.
That growth comes from four things we have never compromised on: strict quality control, qualified and competent staff, modern equipment, and good customer service. Partnerships with laboratories in North America mean patients here can access almost any test they need without leaving the country.
Today we offer more than a thousand tests to walk-in patients, doctors, every insurance company in Guyana, and over sixty local and international organisations.
Accredited to ISO 15189
ISO 15189 is the international standard for quality and competence in medical laboratories. Eureka was the first laboratory in Guyana to meet it, joining a small group of accredited laboratories in the Caribbean. We are also certified by the Guyana National Bureau of Standards and have been recertified year after year.
For you, accreditation means your sample is collected, tested and reported under audited procedures and strict quality control.
Tests we brought to Guyana
Before Eureka introduced these, patients had to send samples abroad themselves or go without.
- DNA paternity, maternity, sibling, ancestry and prenatal paternity testing
- Cancer markers including CA 19-9, CA 15-3, CA 125 and CEA
- Specialty tests such as homocysteine, antinuclear antibodies, anti-dsDNA, mercury, lead, vitamin B12 and vitamin D
- PCR testing for Zika virus
- Forensic testing for human blood

- The first laboratory in Guyana to run a computerised laboratory information system, so every sample is tracked from collection to report.
- We introduced digital radiography to Guyana. Images can be printed on film, saved to disc or sent by email.

Founder and Director-CEO
A microbiologist by training, Dr. Boyle founded Eureka in 1995 and has led it through three decades of growth, from a single Georgetown laboratory to a network of branches across Guyana. In 2022 the University of Guyana awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Letters.
